I do not have a big sweet tooth (I only care for chocolate icecream or a chocolate brownie), but whenever I go travelling, I always check out some bakeries. To me, bakeries are one of the best places to go to chill when you are in a foreign city and I do not mind eating a cupcake from time to time.
When I was in London six years ago I went to The Hummingbird Bakery. I can not remember how I learned about them, because I am pretty sure Instagram and Pinterest were not as huge as they are now (if they were even released then!). The interior and extensive choices were quite overwhelming, but the cupcakes my mom and I had chosen turned out very well.
A few weeks ago when I was visiting London, I decided to check out The Hummingbird Bakery again. My mom and I went there on a rainy morning and decided to sit inside instead of buying some cakes as a take-away (we did that last time). We drank some tea, my mom went for the red velvet cupcake, I went for the nutella cupcake (can you tell I like chocolate?) and we shared a piece of a cake with raspberries, cream and chocolate. They were all very tasty and worth the money.
I would say The Hummingbirg Bakery is mostly for pickups and grabbing something for on the go. You can sit here, but they do not have a great seating area; just a ‘bar’ looking at a wall. But the staff was friendly and I would highly recommand buying some cupcakes here.
The day before we went here, we had been to Nordic Bakery. Before we went to London I had done some research on bakeries in London and pinned them on my map in MapsMe. So when we were closeby Nordic Bakery, we decided to go there.
Nordic bakery was totally different from the Hummingbird Bakery, because it felt more like a cafe. There was a ‘real’ seating area with tables and chairs. They also not only sold cakes, but also some kinds of pastries. My mom and I chose for a chocolate muffin and a blueberry upside down cake and it was delicious.
For me, the most important thing about a bakery is the food, and both of these bakeries had very good pieces of cakes and cupcakes. I enjoyed both of them… it just depends on wether you need a fast cupcake or birthday cake (The Hummingbird Bakery) or just want to chill, talk and have a slice of cake (Nordic Bakery).
I know there are plenty of bakeries in London and I had more on my list, but in the two days in London we could not visit any more.

Ondanks dat ik niet erg van zoetigheid houd (alleen van chocolade ijs en chocolade brownies) vind ik het altijd leuk om in een vreemde stad naar een bakery te gaan.
Toen ik zes jaar geleden in Londen was, ging ik naar The Hummingbird Bakery. Ik weet niet meer precies hoe ik bij deze bakery was bekomen, volgens mij waren Instagram en Pinterest nog klein, als ze er uberhaupt al waren. Het interieur en de diversiteit in cupcakes waren overweldigend, maar de cupcakes waren heerlijk.
Een paar weken geleden was ik weer in Londen en besloot ik weer naar The Hummingbird Bakery te gaan. Het regende en na een ochtend shopping op Oxford street hadden we wel zin in iets lekkers. In plaats van een paar cupcakes mee te nemen besloten wij er te gaan zitten. Mijn moeder had een red velvet cupcake, ik een nutella cupcake en we deelden een stuk taart met framboos, creme en chocolade. Ze waren allemaal erg lekker.
The Hummingbird Bakery is goed om cupcakes op te halen, maar er zitten is iets minder. Ze hebben alleen een barretje waar je aan kan zitten. Het personeel was wel erg vriendelijk en ik raad iedereen aan om zeker eens een cupcake hier te halen als je in Londen bent.
De dag ervoor waren wij al naar Nordic Bakery geweest. Deze bakery was totaal anders; ze hadden tafels en stoelen, waardoor het eerder een cafetje leek. Ook verkochten ze niet alleen taarten, maar ook pastries. Mijn moeder en ik kozen voor een chocolade muffin en een upside down taart met blauwe bessen. Beide waren heerlijk.
Het belangrijkste aan een bakery vind ik het eten… en deze bakeries verkochten heerlijke cupcakes en taarten. Er zijn veel meer bakeries in London, maar helaas konden wij niet meer in twee dagen bezoeken.
