Day trip: China Light Festival (Rhenen, The Netherlands)

Last Saturday my mom and I took the train to Utrecht, The Netherlands. After checking into our hotel, we had some lunch and walked around the city centre and the shopping mall “Hoog Catharijne”. There was some shops that we do not have in our city, so we enjoyed walking through stores like H&M Home, Zara Home etc.

We decided to have an early dinner, because that evening we were going to “Oudehands Dierenpark” (the zoo) in Rhenen for the China Light Festival. Because we were going to Rhenen by train, I suggested eating closeby the trainstation and we ended up at The Seafood Bar (the one in Amsterdam is one of my favorite restaurants). My mom and I really enjoyed our dinners and had a little glass of wine too.

In Rhenen we walked from the trainstation to the zoo. It did not look very busy, but once we entered the zoo it was much busier.

There were 32 different light sculptures placed which are created by Chinese artists around the zoo.

By walking around the zoo you would pass by them all. These light sculptures are several metres in height and portray different themes, from “Holland” with tulips and windmills, to panda’s and a dragon. My favorites were the panda’s and the dragon, this last was was massive and very impressive!
