Koh San Road is one of the most busiest, touristy streets that I have been to. The chaos can be quite overwhelming (people trying to sell you things etc.) and I can understand that some people want to stay as far away from here as possible. Since it is a starting point for a lot of backpackers, you will find a younger crowd here.
On both sides of the Koh San Road are restaurants (Western and Asian), spas and souvenir shops (and tour operators). When you look up to the sky you see a lot of neon signs and ad boards. There are more Western chains like Burger King or Starbucks on the ends of the street.

Koh San Road by day
Koh San Road by day is definitely not as busy as it is at night. Because you do not see the lights during the day, this street almost looks like a normal busy shopping street. You will not see much backpackers in the morning or afternoon.

Bright colored lights, tourists everywhere… that is Koh San Road by night. When you walk through this street you will hear a different type of loud music every few steps.

DO’s:
– buy some (cheesy) souvenirs for your family and friends
– eat cheap Pad Thai from a foodstall
– try one of the delicious fruitshakes from the foodvendors
– get your dose of vitamins by buying some fresh cut fruit

DONT’s:
– buy (too much) fake stuff
– taking a photo of the fried insects without paying the fee

Koh San Road is een van de meest drukste, toeristische straten waar ik ben geweest. De chaos kan erg overweldigend zijn en ik snap dat er mensen zijn die hier ver van willen blijven. Omdat Koh San Road een startpunt is voor veel backpackers, vind je er een jonger publiek.
Aan beide kanten van de straat vind je restaurants (Westers en Aziatisch), spas en souvenir winkels (en reisbureaus). En als je omhoog kijkt zie je neon verlichting en advertentie borden. Aan het einde van de straat vind je meer Westerse ketens zoals Burger King en Starbucks.

Koh San Road overdag
Koh San Road bij dag is absoluut niet zo druk  als ‘s avonds. En omdat je de lichtjes ook niet ziet, ziet het er bijna uit als een normale drukke winkelstraat. Overdag zie je hier niet veel backpackers.

Koh San Road in de avond
Fel gekleurde lichtjes, overal toeristen… dat is Koh San Road in de avond. Als je door deze straat loopt, hoor je elke paar stappen een ander genre harde muziek.

DOEN:
– souvenirs kopen voor familie en vrienden
– goedkope Pad Thai eten bij een stalletje
– genieten van versgemaakte fruitshakes
– vers fruit kopen

NIET DOEN:
– koop geen fake kledingitems enz.
– maak geen foto’s van de gefrituurde insecten zonder de ‘photo fee’ te betalen.
